Cadillac Repair: throttle position sensor, throttle position sensor, seville sts

Question
i have a 1994 seville sts. The throttle position sensor is giving the computer the impression that im always romping on the pedal, so my trannie is downshifting. My tech has gone through three of them and it is still recieving too much voltage.  something like 4.8 volts at idle. its suposed to be about .5 volts at idle.please help!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Hi Gordon, Sounds like you need a new tech or better parts. After 3 quality tps replacements one should have worked. If the wires haven't been switched somewhere in the circuit the only other thing it can be is the computor. However some scan tools are not compatable with some cars and the best way to test for voltage is at the tps itself by backprobeing the wire connector and useing a digital voltmeter. If he went through the dash useing onboard diagnostics and it is still high then it might be worth a shot disconnecting the battery and with a new sensor hooked up relearn the tps angle and idle speed after the battery has been reconnected. Hope that helps. Bill
