Cadillac Repair: electrical, fuse boxes, twilight sentinel

Question
1995 cadillac sedan deville is gradually loosing its electrical options. Over a period of one year, the  manual lock/unlock lever for the doors have become unoperable, the a/c is out even though the refrigerant was refilled, the driver side window will open/close only an 1/8 of an inch unless it is forced, the trunck pull down motor which was replaced now ceases to operate, the twilight sentinel no longer works, the door chime no longer sounds when the driver door is open, the "you left your lights on" chime is also on strike, and I get extra static in my radio reception only when the ignition is running. I have gone through all three fuse boxes, fuse by fuse and none have burned out. In addition, I have reprogrammed the cars computer twice with no changes. Is this gradual death the cars computer, or something electrical other than that?

Answer
Hi Matthew, Sorry it took so long to get back to you. In going through the electrical diagrams there doesn't seen to be a power or ground location that controls just those objects. Because you car is a '95 it is quite possable that those things have gone bad and need to get replaced or further testing with a digital voltmeter or 12 volt test light will find the trouble spots. Haveing a good shop manual with electrical diagrams will be needed. If unsure how to test then you will need to find a shop that does and figure out what things you can do with out and what you want to fix. I'll go down the list and give you some ideas. Checking all the fuses you could find was a good first step. Did you make sure that power was getting to the fuse that protects that circuit? If not a good wireing diagram will be needed to show where the power comes from.
1) Door locks inop might need to take the door panel off and lubing the linkage, chech all the switches and also that the child lock isn't engaged on the master drivers switch. There is a small rubber bumper that cracks off and needs to get replaced but that should affect 1 door and you should still hear the lock motor making noise.
2)If the a/c has set a trouble code in the computor it will need to be cleared before the compressor will engage even with the propper amount of freon. One of the sensors could be unplugged or giving a false reading keeping the compressor off.
3) The drivers window motor is probably worn out and needs to get replaced.
4)Make sure the trunk pull down motor has power and ground to it. There are also 2 switches, 1 on the motor and 1 on the trunk lid near the latch that control operation which could be bad.
5)If the headlamps still work then you will need to test the switch, photo eye in the LH side of the dash and power to the sentinal module. Any one of the 3 could be bad.
6) Test the inputs to the chime module or relace it.
7)Radio static could be from a poor ground at the radio case that adding a ground wire might help. The antenna or cable to it might have extra resistance. With a whine noise look to a bad alternator and popping is sparkplug, cap and rotor probrems. Installing a filter might be required.
Hope that helps. Bill
