Cadillac Repair: 92 Eldorado ignition, battery cables, starter solinoid

Question
Hello Bill:
Tried to start the car this afternoon and had no spark.  The vehicles battery is fine and there is power throughout the dashboard, running lights, radio etc.  When the key is in the ignition and turned on everything is normal, it's when the key is turned to the start position that the car appears dead.  The car has not had problems in the past.  Could it be a fuse or one of the large maxi relays?  Thanks for your time...Bill

Answer
Hi Bill, There are several trhings that could cause a no crank no start. Try the other key and see if it starts...maybe the pellet is dirty. The wires comming from the lock cylinder could be broken in 2 but then you should see a theft no start type message. Check the battery cables to make sure they are clean and tight at both ends. Try holding the key in the start position with your foot on the brake and move the shifter from park to OD. If it doesn't start check for battery voltage at the small terminal at the starter solinoid. If battery voltage is present then it is probably starter replacement time.  If you need more help let me know. Bill
