Cadillac Repair: Light Replacement, cadillac emblem, bad hope

Question
How do you replace the light inside the Cadillac emblem on the post outside behind the rear passenger door. I have access to the rear of the fixture but cannot get it to budge. Is it replaced from within the car or must the emblem be removed from the outside?
The car is a 1991 Fleetwood.

Thanks,
Jeff

Answer
Hi Jeff, Those are called opera lights and even in the caddy shop manual they don't have much to say about them except that there is a wiring diagram that shows them to work on 110volts. They don't show a bulb replacement number so if they are Cadillac installed then they might be replaced as the emblem only by removing the inside panel and then the crest unbolts from the inside. If it is aftermarket or dealer installed then it could be a pry off or it might also have to be unbolted. What I would do is remove the panel inside the car that is behind the emblem and see if there is anything that looks like it holds it on and then undo it. If not try prying with a small flatblade screwdriver under the emblem and see if it lifts up. There have been some that I have had to replace the power inverter and others that replaceing the emblem is needed so without testing or replaceing parts you won't know what is bad. Hope that helps.
