Cadillac Repair: 89 cad, pontiac motor, vacuum motor

Question
I have an 89 Fleetwood with a 5.o replacement pontiac motor. It runs reall slow at idle speed.  How do I turn up the idle?  It has a carb.  Also, how to replace oil sending unit?  Its leaking

Answer
Hi Kevin, Without knowing what year the engine is makes it tough to give anything but basic advise. Usually on the LH front of the carb there might be a vacuum motor or electric motor that boosts the idle speed. Getting a manual should have the testing info in there. The screw on the throttle lever cotrols minumum idle speed and you could turn that screw to boost the idle but then the engine might want to run on after you turn the key off....As for the sender there is a special shaped socket that fits on the sender and you then use a ratchet to remove and reinstall it. It can be gotten at bigge parts stores and maybe the Sears also. Hope that helps. Bill
