Cadillac Repair: engine swap, intake camshafts, northstar engine

Question
i have a '97 northstar engine out of a sts. it looks exactly the same as the 4.0 northstar in my '98 aurora. can the longblocks be switched without any major complications? i know, that the addition of a stroker kit to 383 in a ls1 engine is compensated by fuel system. will this be true for the increase from 4.0 to 4.6 ? i can be reached at 504-431-7806. or e-mail your number, and i'll call you, thanks.

Answer
Hi William, There is a good chance that it will fit because the only major differance between the two is the size of the cylinders...the heads and block are interchangable providing that there wasn't a design change to the engine block between '97 and '98. In fact when the Aurora first came out they told us in school that if you changed the 2 intake camshafts on the 4.0 with the camshafts from a 4.6 then you would gain 50hp. Call the Olds dealer and ask if the engine is the same for '97 and '98 in the Aurora and if it is then installing it shouldn't be too big of a deal. As for the fuel system the prom calibrations will be differant but the good news is is that if you go to a GM shop they might be able to reprogram the PCM with the northstar calibration and then you will be all set. It might run just fine with out the recalibration but since I have not had any experriance with this swap I can't say for sure. Hope it works out. Bill
