Cadillac Repair: OBD-diagnostic trouble codes, oxygen sensor, trouble tree

I went on line and found a site telling me how to run a diagnostic trouble test for my 1992,eld.what will the codes telling me,i do have list of codes from the same site.        thank you for your time.d.scappa

Hi d. scappa, I'm not quite sure what your question is. A code is set by the computor when a sensor is operating out of a normal range and help the tech. diagnose and repair the problem. For example if you have a code E044 for a lean exhaust it could mean a bad oxygen sensor, weak fuel pump or  restricted fuel filter to name a few things. In days before the computor all you would know was the car had no power or died on acelleration and the tech was supposed to know what to do. Now with the advent of codes the trouble tree leads the tech down a path doing specific tests to narrow down the cause. If that doesn't answer your question then repost and get more specific. Bill
