Cadillac Repair: VINYL TOP REPAIR/REFINISHING, antique auto museum, hemmings motor news

Question
I AM RETAINED BY THE CURATOR OF A MAJOR ANTIQUE AUTO COLLECTION. MANY OF THE 60S/70S CADILLACAS AND OTHER MAKES HAVE OLDER DRIED, CRACKING TOPS. YEARS AGO THERE WERE PRODUCTS SUCH AS RALLY THAT ONE USED TO CONDITION VINYL TOPS AND OTHERS THAT WERE SIMULAR TO SHOE POLISH THAT COULD BE USED TO RECVONDITION OLDER DRIED TOPS THAT HELPED FILL AND SEAL CRACKS. WHERRE CAN I FIND SUCH PRODUCTS. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A SPRAY ON DYE. ALSO SPEAKING OF DYE-THERER WAS A PRODUCT CALLED FAB SPRAY FOR FRESHING UP FADED CLOTH INTERIORS. WE HAVE A CONVERTIBLE WITH A FADED BLACK CANVAS TOP-PLEASE ADVISE.THANK YOU

Answer
Hi Lew, I don't really have any expertise in this area and would hate to recommend something only to have you put it on and cause damage to your cars. The 2 products that you mention I have never heard of before and what I use is Armor all. I'm sure there are much better products on the market and you could give me many reasons why it isn't good to use. What I would suggest is call some detail shops and see what they would recommend or go to the news stand and look in Hemmings Motor News or Old Cars and see what is recommended by those folks. There is a well respected antique auto museum in  Volo, IL 815-385-3644 that might tell you what they use. Sorry I can't be more help. Bill
