Cadillac Repair: Pulsating brakes, front wheel bearings, pulsating brakes

Question
I have replaced the front rotors and calipers and the rear drums and pads on a 1991 Cadillac Da Ville.  I have blead the lines starting with the right rear wheel cylinder several times.  I can not seem to get rid of the pulsating or vibration when I apply the brakes.  This pulsation is more noticeable when braking from a speed above 45 mph.  I have also replaced the front wheel bearings.  I tried having the rotors and drums turned down first.  When this did not work I purchased new rotors and drums.  No change.  Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Galen, Replacing the parts should have made the pulsation or vibration go away for alittle while at least. What causes this to happen is overtightening of the lugnuts. Make sure to use a torque wrench set to 100 ftlbs. Also make sure the surface where the drum or rotor contacts on the hub and bearing between the lugnut studs is free of rust and reasonably flat. To isolate where the problem is use the emergency/park brake and see if it also pulsates. If the brake doen't release in drive then don't do this test until you get that system fixed. If so then you need to look at the rear brakes. If no pulse then the problem is in the front. I have see rotors warp in as little as 2 days if they are overtightened so I wouldn't be surprised if that has happened. Also make sure the caliper bolt sleeves and bushings have been lubricated and there is at least .006" between the top and bottom of the caliper and the knuckel sliding surface so it doesn't bind and overheat the rotor. You may want to raise the front end and support it with jackstands and spin both wheels. Maybe a brake hoe or master cylinder is causing one wheel to drag or bind up compaired to the other one. Hope that helps. Bill
