I have an 1989 cadillac sedan de-ville and can not figure out how to get the ignition key cylinder out to replace it i have already bought a new one thinking i could figure it out from there.  can you help?

Well bill, i was able to break off the very outer part that you grab to turn the ignition.  basically have no clue looks comlpicated then again maybe it isnt.  By the way thanks for answering so quickly!

Hi Mike, Sounds like in your case this job might be best done by a shop. I would suggest getting a manual eithor from the library or the parts store and read the complete procedure. To me it doesn't seem too hard but there are 2 special tools that you will need to rent or buy and getting the lock cylinder wire fed down through the column once the steering wheel, lock plate and turn signal switch are removed might be a problem for you. If you cut the wires on the new cylinder then you might have to buy another cylinder and 2 more keys or at the very least repair the wires and try to reassemble it again. Good luck. Bill
