Cadillac Repair: cadillac problems, throttlebody, caddi

Question
I have a 93 Cad Deville, I took off my battery and now my car will not completely turn over (start), i think my computer have lost memory, i tried taking off the positive for five minutes bt that did not work for me, hope you have some advice thanks for your time

Answer   Hi Dee, Disconnecting the battery and then hooking it back up should allow the engine to start. If the cable wasn't tight enough or corrosion is on the cable then it might not start. When the engine starts it might idle faster than normal until the idle speed is relearned. How did the engine start and run before the battery was disconnected? Did it turn over at normal speed or slower? And why did you disconnect it? How fast does it turn over now or does it just click? Let me know if you need more help. Bill

Bill it was doing perfect before i disconnected it, i disconnected it to use the battery for another Caddi but i asked a mechanic he mentioned i might need to touch the positive to the negative terminal while the key is in the on position it actually turns over just dont start, clean posts no corrosion and posts are tight. When i did the code test its showing ".0.7" meaning no codes present

Answer
Dee, If you disconnected the battery or connected the battery with the key on then the computor might have been damaged. Touching the positive to negative terminal won't do any good except damage something. That mechanic has no clue so he said what he did. It might have just been coinsidence but if the engine turns over at normal speed but won't start then you will need to determine if the problem is fuel or spark related. Remove the air filter housing from the throttlebody and give a 3 second blast of carb spray into the throttlebody and then try to start the engine. If it starts or tries to start then your problem is fuel related and you will need to do further testing to find out where the problem is. Otherwise it is a spark problem and you will need to test that system. Good luck. Bill
