Cadillac Repair: Delco alternator??, rateing, installation assistance

Question
I added a 200 amp Delco 21SI alternator for add-ons...I ordered it to be externally regulated.
It came with the field wire hanging out as expected.....but.....it won't work with a standard 'B' circuit external regulator....

It falls in the category of an 'A' circuit......the alternator will charge when the field wire is put to ground!!?......and then it wants to do only a full field test @ 40 volts?

Is there a work around for this? a regulator for this?....or do I just have to have it disassembled and have the wire put on the right connection for the 'B' circuit setup?

Help!!!...........I only need about 17/ 18 volts.......
Thanks in advance.....you were a great help on my ac problem....thanks for that also.....DB

Answer
Hi DeWayne, Sorry I can't help you with this problem because I have not done this type of install. Go back to the place you bought it from and ask for assistance or ask them for an 800 number for installation assistance. BTW Your car runs on aprox 14.5 volts so haveing it set at 17/18 volts would cook a battery in short order unless you change it to a higher rateing battery capable of handeling the higher voltage.
