Cadillac Repair: Cadillac warning light, rear strut, electronic valve

Question
The "Service ride control" warning light has been visible on my '94 DeVille for five months.  Four different mechanics have given me four different diagnosis' - all with steep ($600+ estimates).
The last mechanic claims the problem might be a leak in the airbag.  As long as safety is not compromised, how can I turn the light off and not go broke?

Answer
Hi Ronnie, If you don't take your DeVille to a Caddy dealer or tech that is famillar with them then you are bound to get all sorts of differant answers. What  that light usually comes down to is a bad internal valve inside a front or rear strut. The reason they are so expensive is that there is an electronic valve inside each strut that changes the ride from soft to firm depending on driving conditions. There was a bulletin for the '93 DeVille that you change the struts in pairs to base struts without the valveing and disable the computor so the light stays off. Maybe if you contact the Caddy dealer they might have a kit or bulletin that applies to your '94. Without reading the codes and testing the system it is tough to know what to replace and that has to be done by a qualified tech. Hope that helps. Bill
