Cadillac Repair: tranny, seville sts, solinoid

my transmission went. i lost 3rd and 4th gears. i was told that when it went that it caused engine damage. what kind of engine damage could result from this?

Hi Gordon, The trans is an eletric shift unit and maybe a shift solinoid went bad or a wire went open. Just because you lost the gears doesn't mean that the engine automatically goes bad. What happens is the engine revs higher in second gear so if you try to go 5000rpm for a long time then the engine rings or bearings could go bad prematurily. If you haven't taken it to a Caddy mechanic or trans shop then do so and all you might need are a minor repair instead of a trans. Hope that helps. Bill
