my engine starts then shuts off immediately. i previously had a pass key fault problem which was fixed with an installation of a resistor. this fuel or ignition failure is intermittent. please help, this always happens at the worst possible times.

Hi Alfred, I need to know the year and model of the vehicle. Also does it shut off after 2 seconds or as soon as you release the ignition key? Was any other work done to the vehicle and then this started happening? Bill

the car is a 1994 cadillac fleetwood, rear wheel drive, and yes, it runs  approximately 2 seconds after it starts. it was fairly infrequent at first but now it is frequent and it usually happens during the daylight hours. i have installed a sound system with large woofers which could drain battery system, perhaps? i did read something about a anti-theft circuit that is tied to the pass key fault circuit that shuts off fuel, ignition or both.
but i can not find the website where i read it. thanks bill, i hope this is good information to go on. sincerely, alfred ramos

Answer
Hi Alfred, The computor might not know that the engine is running due to a bad oil pressure switch. You will need to find out if the fuel, spark or theft system is at fault through further testing. There isn't one thing I can point to and say this is bad and replace it. Bill
