Cadillac Repair: cutting out, cadillac fleetwood, oxygen sensor

Question
As I drive along the car seems to be cutting out as if the gas is not getting to the engine.   When this happens the car kinda jerks.  What is like the cause of this?  What are some steps I  can take to correct this?

Answer
Hi J.B., If you haven't done a tune up in awhile then sparkplugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor replacement might cure your problem. Knowing fuel pressure while driving might lead you to replace the fuel filter or a weak pump. Fuel injectors that are shorting out will cause this also. Going into the ECM and reading data might point to a bad sensor such as an oxygen sensor or tps.  You can see where this is heading in that there are alot of possabilities and if after you do the tune up, if it hasn't been done in awhile, doesn't fix the problem then you should get it into the shop for diagnosis or alot of money will be spent on hit or miss parts replaceing. Hope that helps. Bill
