I am sorry I drive a 1998 Cadillac Catera and I found the part on expressautoparts.com.
Question -
I was told that my engine oil cooler is leaking and that the dealer will be the only one to fix it. they told me the cost was 947.00 and that 442.00 of that was the part. I found the part for less but not sure which one to get. There was a 457 md and 459 ld on expressautoparts.com for less made by Hyden. Do I need both parts or are they the same part with a different degree of material strength.
Answer -
Hi Pernell, That sounds like alot of money. Since you didn't tell me what you are driveing I can only generalize and say that most times the engine oil cooler is inside the radiator end tank and a radiator repair shop should be able to replace just the cooler if the rest of the radiator is good for alot cheaper that a new radiator. You could shop around for the best price on a radiator, preferably one with a lifetime warrenty if you plan on keeping the vehicle awhile yet. Newer vehicles make it hard to separate the radiator from the a/c condenser while both are still inside the vehicle so you might have to have a shop evacuate the freon and then put it back in after the rad is reinstalled. The differance in price could be warrenty period, manual or auto trans or quality of part but that you will need to ask before ordering because without the year, model and engine size I can't find the 2 models that you are talking about to compair. Hi Pernell, That makes alittle more sence now. The Cateras had a problem of leaking coolant from in the valley of the engine below the intake manifold. Usually the coolers were ok unless you have an o-ring at the cooler fitting that is leaking. If you are seeing oil in the antifreeze then the cooler will need to be replaced. Be carefull who you have do the work because if they don't know what they are doing they could create alot of problems with the engine. I would recommend taking it to a caddy dealer for this repair.I went to the web site and they don't give enough info to tell what the differance in the cooler types are. You will have to talk to someone before ordering one if that is what you want to do. Bill
