Cadillac Repair: engine oil cooler hose, engine oil cooler, hose clamp

Question
Hello again Bill.
I'm the guy with the 1991 Caddy (Deville)thats
leaking oil (at the crimped metal section of the oil cooler hose). You stated that due to the vibration, it could be cracked and I should have
the two lines replaced.I can only see one line,
and it's leading from the back side of the oil filter holder, down to the bottom of the radiator (drivers side). As you can tell by my auto terminology (oil filter holder),I'm not a pro.
But I thought this was somthing I could do and save a few bucks. Since being laid off work,I've
learned how to do a few things.Do I need to dis-
connect the entire metal line or just the rubber
section at the crimp, down to the bottom of the
radiator. If so, does it pop off, screw off or have to be cut off?(I speaking of where the hose goes into the metal crimp section)Again forgive
my auto terminolgy... I'm learning as I go.

              Thanks again!!

Answer
Hi Charles, If you look on the drivers side of the radiator you will see one hose that screws into the top of the rad and another hose that screws into the bottom of the rad. Both need to get replaced because it is tough to crimp the hose ends tight enough with a hose clamp and the hoses are special reinforced hoses that are oil resistant. They might be only available from the caddy dealer. You might also have a short  metal tube that goes from the oil filter adapter to one of the hoses. It would be a good idea to remove it from the adapter and replace the o-ring because they tend to leak over time. Just take a wrench and unscrew the hose ends and throw the hose away and install a new assembly. This should be an easy repair once the air cleaner housing is removed. Bill
