Cadillac Repair: 1996 Fleetwood Brougham, mass air flow sensor, mass air flow

Question
I have a 1996 Fleetwood which runs fine, it recently displayed a "Check Engine' symbol. I took it to have the diagnostics completed at a local Auto parts store. The diagnostic revealed a code that stated the problem to be a Mass Airflow malfunction. The Autoparts mechanic checked his inventory to find they did not carry the related "Mass Air Flow sensor". My question is: Is it the "Mass Air flow sensor" causing the problem? (and where is it located?), or is there another malfunction on the vehicle that is causing the MAF sensor to respond therefore seting off the "Check Engine" warning light? What are the possible issues that might cause this malfunction?

Answer
Hi Bennie, With out knowing the exact code number that was stored it would be tough to advise you other than to say I have seen sensors that go bad, a loose wire terminal at the sensor or a chewed through or cut wire. Without further testing throwing a MAF sensor at the car may not fix it. The sensor is located in the rubber hose after the air filter and before the engine. Bill
