Cadillac Repair: 87 Cadillac Eldorado, Crank No Start Situation, rotor coil, cadillac eldorado

Question
Mr. Cherniwchan,

Hello,

I have a crank no start situation 4.1 engine 87 Eldorado,  65K  just bought car and it worked ok for a couple thousand of miles.  Then one day it would crank but not start.

DTC at that time were
E012 CURRENT
E027 History
E048 History
B120 History
B121 History
B127 History
B446 History
B447 CURRENT
B552 History

I did some research on the HE Ignition System and changed all Ignition Parts, Distributor Cap and Rotor, Coil, Ignition Control Module,
Used Dielectric grease, & Capicator,

The Distributor Cap was in really bad shape, corroded, etc. so I figured this was the problem by site.

Car then started and I gave a test drive on freeway and the car just cut off and would crank and not start again.

SERVICE NOW SHOWED UP ON THE DISPLAY

Diagnostic codes now are:

E012 CURRENT
E052 History
E053 History
B120 History
B552 History

I only have the E code list

I have had three Cadillacs with the 4.1 Engine and have had some issues with the car, but this is the first time that I had one that would not start.

Possibly it could be fuel I guess, I turned on the ignition and listened to the gas tank by taking off the gas cap and the fuel pump does hom for a few seconds.

Battery cables look good,
Fuses checked.

I can't think of what it could be.

Maybe you can give me a clue.

Thank You

Doug Sheehan

Answer
Hi Doug, You will need to get a shop manual and perform the E12 no dist tach signal and the cranks will not run trouble trees to isolate the problem. What it is comming down to besides the parts you have already replaced are the pick-up coil, ecm, distributor wireing harness inside the distributor or the wiring from the dist. to the ecm. Your new ignition module could be bad. Without testing for 12psi fuel pressure I would think that the pump is good because if you hear it run for 2 seconds and then quit that is normal if the engine isn't running. And the injectors spray while cranking don't they?  Sorry I can't be of more help because without doing more tests  I can't say what part to replace because it isn't always the same thing that goes bad.
