Cadillac Repair: fuel filter replacement/fuel line pressure, fuel filter replacement, fuel pump relay

Question
I have a 86 Deville. Had to replace inline fuel filter. That was no problem, now car will not strat. There is little fuel going thourgh the filter to carb. Is it low pressure in the tank that's not allowing fuel to flow? If so how do you repressurerize the system? Does it do so by itself?
                 thank you for you help

Answer
Hi Roy, Double check that the filter was installed correctly and with the arrow pointing towards the engine. It might take 2-3 key cycles or cranking the engine 10 to 15 seconds to get fuel up to the injectors. Normal fuel pressure is 12psi but the spec is 9-12 psi. I suppose if the pump were weak or the fuel pump relay had worn contacts then it may have taken this oppertunity to quit working because of the extra force required to prime the line. The fuel pump is located in the tank. I have heard of bad gas caps not allowing fuel to flow. You could take the cap off and crank the engine 10-15 seconds and see if that makes a differance. Bill
