Cadillac Repair: 85 coupe deville, fuel pump filter, wire harnesses

Question
I WAS DRIVING MY 85 COUPE DEVILLE (4100) AND IT JUST SHUT OFF AND WOULDNT START AGAIN. SINCE THE PROBLEM I HAVE PUT IN A NEW FUEL PUMP, FILTER, IGNITION MODULE, COIL, AND PLUGS. I ALSO CHECKED THE TIMING (#1 TDC ON COMPRESSION) IT APPEARWS TO BE ON. I DID THAT BECAUSE OF THE CAM PROBLEMS WITH THE 4100'S. IT RAN FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS, REAL RICH THEN STOPPED. I GOT ONE CODE (53) DISTRIBUTOR INTERRUPT CODE. WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION ON I CAN FEEL AIR BLOWING THROUGH THE THROTTLE BODIE? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. THANK YOU

Answer
Hi Tim, So what you have is a crank no-start right? Have you checked for fuel pressure with a gage and checked for spark at the plug end of the wire with it disconnected from the plug? What happens? Do you get fuel spray from the injectors when cranking? What I sometimes find is the wireing harness inside the distributor goes open and usually it is the pink wire at the connector with the eyelet. For some reason inside that plastic housing the wire goes open. If you take your ohmeter and wiggle the wires you might see one of them go open. Make sure to test all the distributor wires after unplugging them so you just have the harness on the workbench. If you do find one wire bad then buy both wire harnesses because when you try to separate them the plastic connector will usually break. Hope that helps and if you need more assistance then repost with your results. Bill
