My 93 Eldorado STS with 90,000 miles
These are the codes I get when I run the test
AD48 or AO48
PO36
SO60 PCM?
I have the two huge repair manuals for the car. I became very confused when looking for the trouble codes in the book.  The book gives a bunch of different senarios and I don't understand. Is there an easy way to find the right one. Do you know what these codes stand for?
Also is it a bad idea to start using synthetic fluids at this time in the cars life 90K
Oil?
Trans Fluid?

If the cd player states error when a cd is loaded can it be fixed or is it's life over
Thanks a ton for your help

Hi Ryan, You are right...the Cadillac is the most complicated GM vehicle to work on and at times it gives me fits too. A048 means the computer saw a low freon pressure. It means the freon could be low, you have a bad sensor, connector was unplugged with the key on, wiring or computor problem...S060 means there is a problem with/to the LF height sensor. Most Times I find it is the sensor itself that is bad...P036 means the egr valve is out of range. Most times the valve gets carboned up and can't move its full travel...With all these codes it would be best to clear them and drive the car for 100 miles time and any codes that come back should be diagnosed by the book before any parts are replaced as you will find they are quite expensive. Switching to synthetic fluids might clean out the componant or affect the seals such that it might start leaking so if you want to use a synthetic go ahead but do not feel that you will get much benefit from it...cd err could mean bad disc, installed upside down, moisture in the player or cold, hi heat inside the player, or bad player. Kinda alot to ponder over. Hope that helps. Bill Sorry about all the questions but how do clear the codes and what is the egr valve. I have change brakes in a few other cars is this car similar or do they make it complicated, thanks Ryan

Answer
Hi Ryan, One of your big books will have a picture of the egr valve and where it is located. Front brakes are easy to work on. The rears are alittle harder but with the book it should be easy enough to follow along. To clear the codes in the PCM push and hold off and warmer on the climate control panel for 5 seconds...when PCM? push hi fan...then keep pushing low fan until you see clear codes?...push hi fan...repeat the sequence for clearing codes from all computors. You might want to consider taking an automotive maintenance class at your local junior college or maybe your caddy dealer has a maintenance class on saturday where they will explain how your car works.
