Chevrolet Repair: Gap Between Dash and A-Pillar, chevy tahoe, inch gap

Question
I have tried looking for an answer to this everywhere. If someone could help me out that would be great.

I have a 2011 Chevy Tahoe.  Where the dash meets the A-pillar on the driver's side there is about a quarter inch gap. On the passenger's side the dash fits very snug against the A-pillar and looks like it should look, nice. I am probably a little OCD about this kind of stuff, but nonetheless, once I notice something like this I can't seem to forget it. I removed the cap on the left of the dash on the driver's side where the fuses are and noticed a few different bolts and screws. I loosened some to try and tweak the dash upwards and inwards so that I could try to make it fit closer to the A-pillar. I don't want to tweak it so hard that the dash cracks as I am fully aware just how prone these dashes are to cracking. Any advice other than to just live with it? I am close to taking it to the dealer but I know that any work with the dash is fairly labor intensive and they will try to hold me over the coals, even though I am still under warranty. But this is cosmetic more than anything else. There is nothing wrong with the vehicle per se. Maybe I will just get a dash cover and call it a day. At least I won't have to look at it.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
HI CHARLES,I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN !!!  I AM TO FUSSY TO..ONCE I SEE SOMETHING THAT IS NOT CORRECT I CANNOT SLEEP AT NIGHT..I GOT IT BAD !!!!BUT I HAVE SEEN WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. THERE IS A FIX. IF YOU LOOK ON THE SIDE THAT YOU THINK IS GOOD IT IS MORE THEN LIKELY TO TIGHT ON THAT SIDE.. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SMALL GAP BETWEEN THE DASH AND PILLAR [ON EACH SIDE]. THIS STOPS THE SQUEAKS.. WHEN THEY PUT YOUR DASH IN AT THE FACTORY IT WAS NOT ALIGNED CORRECT..MAYBE BUILT ON A MONDAY OR FRIDAY !!!SO TO CORRECT YOU WILL NEED TO LOOSEN ALL OF THE MOUNTING BRACKETS AND BOLTS THAT SECURE THE DASH TO THE FIREWALL AND SURROUNDS...NOT FUN BUT IT CAN BE DONE..SO NOT TRY TO JUST LOOSEN ONE SIDE AND PULL THIS WILL MORE THEN LIKELY STRESS THE DASH AND CRACK IT..THE DEALER WILL NOT WARRANTY THIS..THEY MAY IF YOU BUY 10 CARS FROM THEM EVERY 8 MONTHS OR SO. BUT GM DOES NOT BUILD SHOW CAR..THIS IS WHAT I HEAR ALL THE TIME..THEY HAVE TOLERANCES BUILD IT AND AS LONG IS THEY FALL IN THAT RANGE. IT IS GOOD ENOUGH..GM IS NOT THE ONLY MAKER OF PROBLEMS LIKE THIS TRUST ME..DUMB QUESTION AND I THINK I KNOW THE ANSWER TO IT. WAS THE CAR EVER INVOLVED IN A ACCIDENT?? I THOUGHT NOT...HAD TO ASK..GOOD LUCK TO YOU ON THIS,,,TOM
