Chevrolet Repair: 2001 Suburban Problem, chevy store, remote keyless entry

Question
QUESTION: Have a 2001 Suburban that runs great.  Had a blinker problem where relay would click at random times even without blinkers on.  Pulled switch off and thought wires unhooked from switch.  Wrong I know now.  I forgot to unhook the battery which was dumb I know and I should know better.

In trying to get then off the switch, caused a small arc between a couple of the wires.  Cleaned switch with electrical contact cleaner and blew dry with air.  Blinker problem solved but then I noticed my remote keyless entry switch did not unlock doors.  Also, no interior lights, headlights.  Security light on constant.  Tried to start it and it starts for a second but will not stay running.  Checked ALL the fuses and none bad.

Tried the start, leave key 'on' for 10 minutes, off for 15 seconds, on for 10, off for 15, on for ten, then restart (passlock relearn?). Nothing.  Believe it might me the passlock systems or another system on the vehicle.

Any clues where else to look or what to check?

ANSWER: HI CHRISS, WELL THE ARCING WIRES BOTHERS ME !!! THIS COULD OF SENT A SPIKE TO THE BCM [BODY CONTROL MODULE]THE FACT THAT THE LIGHTS IN THE TRUCK,DOOR LOCKS IS TYPICAL OF A BAD BCM..I KNOW YOU TRIED THE RELEARN PROCESS BUT TRY IT AGAIN AND THIS TIME LEAVE THE ING KEY ON FOR 20 MINUTES AND SEE IF THE SECURITY LIGHT STOPS FLASHING, IF SO TUNN THE KEY OFF AND SEE IF IT WILL RESTART..IF SO THEN REMOVE THE POS SIDE OF THE BATTERY CABLE FOR 30 MINS AND REHOOK AND SEE IF THE LIGHTS GO BACK TO NORMAL THIS MAY RESET THE BCM, KEY WORD [[[[MAYBE]]]]IF NOT YOU MAYBE TAKING A TRIP TO YOUR CHEVY STORE FOR EITHER A RELEARN OR A NEW BCM AND THEN RELAERN.. LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT,GOOD LUCK,,,TOM

QUESTION: I will do what you said and let you know how it goes.  The arcing was small and happened when I was working with the wires on the blinker switch.  To be honest, the arc was nothing spectacular (more like what you might see when working on toys than a car) but nonetheless, it was still arcing.

The only problem with taking it to the dealer is that the closest one is 30 miles away and that is my only rig with a hitch.  I have a friend with a trailer but now I don't have anything to pull it with.  Oh well.

ANSWER: HI CHRISS,THE BCM CAN BE HARMED BY STATIC ELECTRICITY, I KNOW THIS IS HARD TO BELIEVE BUT,,IT HAPPENS..BUT WE HAVE GOTTEN LUCKY BY DOING THIS AND NO PROBLEMS AFTER THAT..IT IS LIKE WHEN YOUR CORDLESS PHONE FORGOT HOW TO WORK AND YOU NEEDED TO PUT IN ON THE CRADLE TO RELEARN ITSELF..ALSO BY YOU PUTTING A NEW BCM IN WILL NOT WORK BECAUSE IT WILL NEED TO BE FLASHED BY EITHER THE DEALER OR ANYONE IN YOUR AREA THAT HAS A GM TOOL OR SIMILAR SCAN TOOL THAT CAN FLASH..YOU MAY WANT TO CALL AROUND THE SHOPS BY YOUR HOUSE..LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT..TOM..

QUESTION: Ok.  Have run the reprogram a couple of times with no luck.  We removed the blinker assembly just in case there was still a problem with it due to our arcing some of the wires on it.  We have also removed the BCM and looked at it but I figure if it is fried, it is inside a chip which we could not see inside.  So I guess the next step is to replace both the blinker switch (which I do not trust now since I noticed a yellow/red wire that is not brown) and the BCM and then have the system flashed by either a dealer (again 30 miles away) or if I can find someone here with one, have it done there.

Answer
HI CHRISS,THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE BEST PLAN. WOULD ADVISE YOU TO CALL AROUND SHOPS AROUND YOU TO SEE IF YOU CAN GET THIS WORK DONE CLOSER TO YOU..ALSO LETS MAKE SURE THAT THE BCM IS BAD. THE SHOP WITH THE SCAN TOOL WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THIS BY DATA FLOW [TALKING TO IT AND GETTING FEED BACK] GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND IF YOU NEED MORE INFO GET BACK TO ME..TOM..
