QuestionQUESTION: About 3 years ago my dad purchased a 90' Chevy Lumina, we've had a few problem but just recently had a big one. We put it in the car shop on 10/1 & they told us it was an internal.gas leak. Upon taking it in the car would/does shake while sitting still & tries to die if sitting at a long red light. It also made a,loud almost clapping sound when trying to start it. Long story short we pay to have it fixed but 2 days later the car went back to it's old trick. My question is would or should they have known there would be more issues with the car? We took it back & he gave me $4000 worth of work that would need to be done to get it back to full potential. We already paid $440 for the internal.gas leak repair & wonder if we should just junk it or take it else where.

IF THIS IS STILL THE PROBLEM I WOULD SAY IT IS WORTH GETTING IT REPAIRED. OTHER THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE THE PROBLEMS YOU HAVE EXPLAINED IS STICKY EGR VALVE OR MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR GOING BAD..BEFORE WE WORK ON A CAR LIKE THIS WITH PROBLEMS WE GIVE THE CUSTOMER A OVER ALL VIEW OF OTHER PROBLEMS AS WELL.SO YES,,YOUR MECHANIC SHOULD OF TOLD YOU OF OTHER PROBLEMS AS WELL. QUESTION: They replaced a fuel pressure regulator and did an oil change for $440. They told us of a coil & module issue AFTER we brought it back so that'd be an additional $800. Do you know if there is any way we can get our money back for not being informed on further issues?

QUESTION: Hey Tom, I looked into our repair order & we do indeed have a 90 day warranty. I called them & told them we want the warranty honored because it states "All parts & labor guaranteed for 90 days unless misuse, abuse or personal damage occurs. The mechanic is saying since they flushed the gas out of the system & replaced the fuel pressure regulator that they don't have to honor the 90 day warranty. He told me the coil & module were "wearing out".but the car would run. 2 days after the fuel pressure regulator was repaired the coil & module suddenly wore on out & he's saying there is no way they would've known.the car would not work. Can we get our $ back on the basis of the car is doing the same thing we took it in for meaning they didn't fix the problem?
AnswerGOOD MORNING SHADEEMA, WELL THE WAY I AM READING THIS TO ME IT CLEARLY SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS MISDIAGNOSED. THEY [YOUR MECHANIC]ASSUMED THE PROBLEM WAS FUEL RELATED WHEN IT WAS REALLY IGNITION PROBLEMS. IF THIS IS A GOOD SHOP AND HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS A LONG TIME I WOULD THINK THEY SHOULD STAND BEHIND THIS PROBLEM FOR YOU, OR LEAST TALK TO YOU AND COME TO SOME KIND OF AGREEMENT..NO ONE IS PERFECT NOT EVEN MECHANICS, BUT IT IS HOW THEY HANDLE THE PROBLEM AFTER THE FACT IS WHAT MAKES A GOOD SHOP GOOD !!!OUR SHOP WOULD WORK WITH THIS CUSTOMER TO MAKE THEM HAPPY. BY THAT I MEAN SELL THE CORRECT PARTS AT COST AND INSTALL THEM AT HALF THE COST OR SOMETHING OF THIS NATURE..CLEARLY IF THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE AFTER THEY REPAIRED THIS CAR THE FIRST TIME THEY DID NOT DIAGNOSE IT CORRECT..YOUR LAST RESORT IS GOING TO BE SMALL CLAIMS COURT..KEEP ALL OF YOUR RECEIPTS.
