Chevrolet Repair: A/c seals for a 1998 Chevy Camaro, z28 camaro, haynes manuel

Question
Hi it is me again. I know you like hearing from me. I was wondering on the 1998 Chevy z28 camaro. The a/c metal rings are leaking for the a/c the a/c drains in less than a week. It is almost empty so my question is when I replace the metal ring gaskets for the a/c is their a special torque that I need to use with the torque wrench. My neighbor did his he has a firebird and it is the same setup as the camaro. He said he only used his wrist to tighten the seals. I looked i my haynes manuel and their is nothing in their that talks about replacing the metal ring gaskets. Thanks for any help.

Answer
HI SEAN, JUST PUT THE NEW SEALS IN USING SOME FREON OIL ON THEM AND TIGHTEN THE BOLTS WITH A RATCHET OR WRENCH. TIGHT BUT NOT SO THEY SNAP..THERE IS A TORQUE SPEC FOR EVERY BOLT AND NUT ON A CAR BUT THIS IS NOTHING YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT..BUT BEFORE YOU DO THIS HOW DO YOU KNOW THIS IS WHERE THE LEAK IS ??? DID YOU HAVE SOME DYE PUT IN THE SYSTEM AND YOU SEE IT LEAKING AROUND THESE SEALS ?? IF NOT I THINK YOU ARE WAISTING YOUR TIME.. THERE ARE MANY AREA'S THAT FREON CAN LEAK FROM,EVAPORATOR[UNDER DASH]COMPRESSOR SEAL BY CLUTCH,CONDENSOR IN FRONT OF RADIATOR. I WILL BE HONEST WITH YOU,THE ONLY TIME I HAVE SEEN THESE SEALS LEAK IS AFTER YOU REPLACE THE MANIFOLD LINES TO THE BACK SIDE OF THE COMPRESSOR AND YOU DO NOT REPLACE THESE SEASL,THEY LEAK. SO IF YOU HAVE NOT PUT A LEAK DETECTOR OF DYE IN THIS SYSTEM TO CK FOR LEAKS,PLEASE DO SO,OR YOU MAYBE CHASING YOUR TAIL... LET ME KNOW HOW THIS WORKS OUT FOR YOU AND GOOD LUCK,,,,TOM
