Chevrolet Repair: 1999 Cavalier starts and dies, pushrod engine, chevy dealer

QUESTION: I have a 99 Cavalier that fires then dies right after.  It's a 5 speed manual with the 2.2 OHV single cam pushrod engine.  It did this a few times intermittently, then it would start and run fine between times.  It never died while driving, only on startup.  When it started correctly, it always ran perfect until we turned it off.  Now it fires and dies every time without fail and we can't use the car.  I understand it may be the passlock system.  I don't know which system the 99 Cavalier has, Passlock, Passlock II or whatever.  I already tried the method of turning the key on for 10 minutes then off 3 times and that hasn't worked.  One solitary individual suggested putting the key in the door and doing some combination of lock, unlock, wait 5 seconds, etc.  I haven't tried that yet, but what do you suggest?

ANSWER: HI, THE MAN OF STEEL,,,,WOW,, GREAT NAME...LETS START OVER,  DOES THIS SECURITY LIGHT ON THE DASH FLASH OR IS IT ON SOLID?? IF YES TO ANY OF THE ABOVE THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED..I WILL ASSUME YOU DO NOT HAVE A SCAN TOOL. IF YOU DID YOU COULD PULL A CODE FROM THE SYSTEM AND THIS WOULD TELL YOU WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE SYSTEM. THE CODE WOULD START WITH B NOT PO...IF THIS IS ACTIVATED AS I SAID ABOVE MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED. NEXT STEP TURN THE KEY ON ALL THE WAY [BEFORE CRANKING THE ENG]LEAVE IT ON FOR 15 TO 20 MINUTES OR UNTILL THE SECURTY LITE STOPS FLASHING OR TURNS OFF. TEN MINUTES WILL NOT WORK.. THEN TURN THE KEY OFF AND START THE CAR. IF THIS WORKS,THIS MAY LAST LIKE THIS FOR 1 HOUR TO 1 MONTH,NO TELLING.. GM TELLS US DO NOT RELEARN THIS SYSTEM LIKE THIS FOR MORE THEN 30 TIMES OR THE PCM [POWER CONTROL MODULE] WILL FAIL...MORE MONEY.. SO IF THIS IS THE PROBLEM AND YOU WANT TO FIX THIS YOU WILL NEED TO GET A NEW IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WITH KEY TO MATCH YOUR CAR..GO TO THE CHEVY DEALER AND PICK ONE UP. THIS SYSTEM READS BY THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER TURNING FREELY WITH THE KEY,WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM SENDS THE INFO TO THE BCM WHICH IN TURN SENDS THE INFO TO THE PCM TO TURN ON THE FUEL INJ PULSE TO OPEN THE INJECTORS..THE OTHER SYSTEM [BEFORE YOURS WAS THE DIODE CHIP IN THE KEY HANDLE..LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT WITH THIS,HOPE THIS HELPS YOU,,,,,,TOM..

Sorry about the duplicate question.  When I hit "send" I left my computer while it uploaded the question.  When I came back the same page was still showing, so I thought it hadn't sent my question, so I just hit "send" again.  This time I watched it and noticed the question was sent, but the same page still stayed there.  Then I noticed your answer in my email so I realize what's going on.  I am also an expert at allexperts.com in the area of relationships, but I have never asked a question here.  Thanks for your help.  Please see my follow up question below:

Interesting developments here.  I tried the 10 minute x3 deal again before I got your answer, and it worked.  We drove it a couple times around town and it stopped again in town.  I immediately tried the 10 x 3 thing again but this time it didn't work.  I walked halfway across town to meet my wife who took me back home.  Now I could go try your 15 to 20 minute idea and I believe it will work.  HOWEVER....I believe it will stop again after that, and it sounds like you believe it will too.  So what I would really like to know is how to permanently disable, bypass, or eliminate the passlock system so that the car will just start and run when I turn the key, just like a car should (wouldn't that be some kind of new idea)?

You already have 10s across the board coming from me and a nomination for expert of the month, I'm just waiting to get this wrapped up before I put in the ratings.  I can see you know what you are talking about.  How about it?  Is there a way to just get rid of this stupid system?  Oh did I say STUPID?  I guess I did didn't I?

THIS WILL TAKE A GREAT DEAL OF TIME TO REFACE THE BCM ALONG WITH THE PCM..YOU WILL HAVE TO BE VERY GOOD WITH ELECTRONICS..YOU WILL NEED TO GET A NEW DIODE WITH THE CORRECT RATING TO FOOL THE BCM TO TURN ON THE POWER COTROL MODULE... LOTS OF TIME TO DO THIS....MY ADVISE IS TO GET TO THE CHEVY STORE AND GET YOURSELF A NEW PAS LOCK IGN LOCK CYLINDER SYSTEM. YOUR COST WILL RUN YOU ABOUT 235.00 WITH KEY ALIKE.. PUT IT IN, RELEARN AS YOU DID BEFORE AND DRIVE IT...DO NOT TRY TO GO AROUND THIS SYSTEM...VERY HIGH TECH.LOTS OF TROUBLE IN DOING SO. SORRY TO SAY,, IT REALLY IS NOT STUPID.
