Chevrolet Repair: tcc solenoid, chevrolet cavalier, start ups

Question
QUESTION: I have a 95 chevrolet cavalier. 2.2 4 cyl auto. It's been stalling when I come to a stop after driving for 20 to 30 minutes. I had hesitation/loss of power issues as well as difficulty with cold start ups. I've had the fuel pump/fuel filter, the battery, the ignition control module changed. I even unplugged the TCC solenoid the way many have suggested. The hesitation/loss of power issues and difficulty with cold start ups disappeared. For a couple of weeks I was even able to drive it for more than 30 minutes without it stalling. But then the stalling came back at stops after 20 minutes of driving. The check battery and check oil lights came on at the time of the stall. Someone told to me to put fuel injector cleaner in and I test drove the car for 45 minutes with no problems. But after parking for a minute and starting the car again the check engine light came back on after 3 minutes of driving. Do I need to simply have the TCC solenoid replaced or is the check engine light coming on a side effect of unplugging the tcc solenoid? I had the car scanned more than once but no codes came up. I've taken the car to more than one mechanic but no solutions. Thanks for any help you can give me.

ANSWER: HI DAVID, THE CK ENG LIGHT CAME ON PROBABLY BECAUSE THE TCC IS UNPLUGGED. THIS IS NORMAL AND SHOULD HAPPEN. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THERE IS NO CODES IN THE SYSTEM WHEN YOU HAD IT SCANNED. THIS BOTHERS ME. LIKE PCM FAILING. WAS YOUR TECH USING A GOOD SCAN TOOL. JUST ASKING ?? WHEN THE CAR STALLS THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WILL LIGHT. THIS IS NORMAL.. NO PROBLEM HERE. DUMB QUESTION ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE UNPLUGGING THE TCC SOLENOID ??? TRY THIS..DRIVE THE CAR AT 30 MPH OR LESS FOR AS LONG AS YOU CAN TAKE IT..IF IT STALLS WHEN YOU STOP THE TCC IS NOT TO BLAME..THE CONVERTOR WILL ONLY LOCK UP OVER 35 TO 38 MPH. IF I READ THIS CORRECT THE ONLY ISSUE NOW IS STALLING WHEN STOPPED IS THIS CORRECT ??? AGAIN AS I SAID WITH THE CK ENG LIGHT ON NOW THERE SHOULD BE A CODE IN THE PCM,, IF NOT SOMETHING IS GOING ON WITH THE COMMUNICATIONS OF THIS COMPUTER. I WOULD SUGGEST GOING BACK TO YOUR TECH AND HAVE HIM OR HER REMOVE A SENSOR CONNECTOR IN THE ENG BAY AREA AND SEE IF THIS SETS A CODE AND IF SO WHAT THE CODE IS..GET BACK TO ME ON THIS AND WE WILL GET INTO THIS MORE. QUESTION: Thanks for your fast and detailed response Tom. The only problem with the car now is the stalling. This has happened on stop and go city driving not highway. Wouldn't trust this car on the highway with the stalling issue. When I think about it the stalling only started back up after I was at a quarter tank or lower of gas. After I used the fuel injector cleaner and filled the tank over half full was I able to drive the car without it stalling for 45 minutes. But I didn't keep driving after the check engine light came back on out of fear of it stalling again. So I don't know if the car would have eventually stalled again. I had the car scanned 4 times by 4 different mechanics. The check engine light comes on but when I take the car to the mechanic and the mechanic turns the car off and restarts it the check engine light goes out. But there are no codes being produced whether the light is on or off. I'm pretty sure I unplugged the tcc solenoid. It's the blue plug on the drivers side front of the car connected to the trans. It had some sort of clip on the underside that made it difficult to unplug. I bought the car last October. I didn't notice that it was unplug at that time. Doing some research online I found numerous sites with people complaining about the exact same problem with this model car. They state that when scanned there are never any codes for this issue. I will take your advice about having the sensor connector removed in the eng bay and take it for another test drive at 30 mph or less and get back to you. Thanks again for your help.

Answer
HI DAVID, THIS MAY SOUND DUMB BUT I WOULD ADVISE YOU TO DRIVE THE CAR TILL THE CK ENG LIGHT RETURNS AND TAKE IT OVER TO YOUR TECH AND HAVE HIM SCAN THE SYSTEM BEFORE YOU TURN THE ENG OFF.
[[[DO NOT TURN THE CAR OFF,,,SCAN IT FIRST]]]CALL YOUR TECH AND LET HIM KNOW YOU ARE ON THE WAY OVER TO SEE HIM..WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME AT OUR SHOP.. THIS WAY YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO RETRIEVE A CODE..IT DOES SOUND LIKE YOU UNPLUGGED THE TCC SOLENOID. LET ME KNOW HOW YOU MAKE OUT..GOOD LUCK TOM...
