Chevrolet Repair: o2 sensor on a 97 s10, chevy s10, starter solenoid

Question
Hello. I recently bought my first vehicle a 1997 4.3 chevy s10. After failing my etest I went to change my cat on the truck to see if that would help...went to start it up after changing it and nothing..everything works but the engine won't even crank over. After talking to a few people i was told that the o2 sensors might be the problem sure enough I looked at the sensor after the cat and 2 wires were pulled from it and one prong inside the plug was corroded and snapped off. Will a missing o2 sensor cause the truck not to run? Thank you for your time

Answer
HI TYLER,,YOU SAY THE ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK OVER. THIS MEANS TO PEOPLE LIKE ME THAT JUST THAT. THE ENGINE WILL NOT [CRANK] [SO NO STARTER ENGAGEMENT] I DO NOT THINK THIS IS WHAT YOU MEAN ???? SO I WILL ASSUME YOU MEAN THAT THE ENG CRANKS OVER BUT WILL NOT START UP? AS FAR AS YOUR TRUCK NOT PASSING THE EMISSION TEST,, YOUR O2 SENSOR WILL CAUSE THIS. NOW TO YOUR QUESTION, A BAD OR EVEN MISSING O2 SENSOR WILL NOT CAUSE YOUR ENG NOT TO START,SORRY. YOU HAVE A UNDERLYING PROBLEM HERE. SO IF AND WHEN THIS ENG DOES NOT START,CK TO SEE IF THERE IS FUEL OR SPARK..WE HAVE HAD MANY,MANY IGN COIL PROBLEMS ON THESE S-10'S..IF YOU ARE NOT SURE HOW TO CK FOR SPARK OR FUEL GET BACK TO ME. IF YOU REALLY MEAN THAT THE ENG WILL NOT CRANK OVER, I WOULD BE CHECKING THE STARTER,NEUTRAL SAFTY SWITCH,OR IGNTION SWITCH. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO CK FOR POWER AT THE STARTER SOLENOID ???LET ME KNOW IF YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO CK THIS.. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU...
