Chevrolet Repair: chevy s10-89, chevy s10, vacuum leak

Hey Tom, I have an S10 that seems to have a fuel issue.  It hesitates as if it's running out of gas, will die when slowing at an intersection, & sometimes won't want to start afterwards.  On the other hand, there are short periods where it's running great.the check engine light came on about three weeks ago, i have not been driving it. This is a list of work that has been done, but has not fixed the problem, changed spark plugs, distrubuter cap and coil, oil change, new air filter.
It is a 1989 chevy s10, 6 cylnder. I was guessing it might be the fule filter but have been doing a bit reaserch and it could be other things like something to do with a vacume seal?? But i dont know.. I would love to hear your opinion..

HI TYRA, WELL THIS WILL NEED SOME DIAGNOSTIC WORK..YOU WILL NEED TO FIND OUT WHEN IT DIES IS IT A FUEL PROBLEM OR IGNITION  ??? ARE YOU ABLE TO CK THIS OUT ??? THIS COULD BE A IGNITION MODULE HEATING UP AND BREAKING DOWN. THEN AFTER IT COOLS DOWN IT CORRECTS ITSELF TO THE NEXT TIME. ALSO A pick up COIL WILL DO THIS AS WELL. WE HAVE REPLACED MANY PICK UP COILS FOR THIS..BUT THIS MAY ALSO BE A FUEL PUMP ISSUE NOT FILTER,[PUMP].ALSO YOU SAY THE CK ENG LIGHT WENT ON. IF YOU GET THIS SCANNED THERE WILL MORE THEN LIKELY BE A CODE IN THE PCM,GET ME THIS CODE IF THERE IS ONE IN THE SYSTEM. THIS WILL HELP ALOT..ALSO A VACUUM LEAK WILL NOT CAUSE THIS,IT MAY CAUSE A IDLE ISSUE BUT WILL ALWAYS START UP AGAIN.. .SO IF AND WHEN THIS STOPS ON YOU AGAIN GET BACK TO ME AND TELL ME IF IT IS FUEL OR IGN PROBLEM..IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ON HOW TO CK THIS LET ME KNOW AND I WILL TELL YOU WHAT AND HOW TO CK.TOM...
