QuestionQUESTION: Have a 2001 Chevy 1500 truck with the 4.8. The truck starts and idles very low. It runs for a few minutes then dies. It will not restart for a few minutes but then does and the process starts all over again. If you hold the accelerator it runs just fine. The battery is new and the alternator has been checked. The fuel filter has also been replaced. Could this be a bad IAC? I'm stumped. Thanks.
ANSWER: HI JASON, IS THE CK ENG LIGHT ON,HAS IT EVER GONE ON AND OFF,HAVE YOU EVER SCANNED THE PCM ???
SO THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT IT IDLES REALLY LOW !!! I WOULD SUGGEST GET YOUR SELF SOME THROTTLE BODY CLEANER, KEEP THE ENGINE OFF AND OPEN THE THROTTLE ALL THE WAY AND CLEAN THE BACK SIDE OF THE THROTTLE PLATE TO REMOVE ANY CARBON BUILD UP. THIS MAY CAUSE YOUR PROBLEM IF THERE IS A BUILD UP OF CARBON. YOU MAY WANT TO USE A OLD TOOTH BRUSH TO REALLY CLEAN IT GOOD. [DO NOT USE ANY HARSH METAL BRUSH ON THIS..]] BUT THERE COULD BE OTHER THINGS AS WELL. THE IAC IS POSSIBLE OR A STICKY EGR VALVE. BUT WOULD DO WHAT I SAID FIRST AND SEE IF THIS HELPS, IF NOT, HAVE THIS ENG SCANNED TO CK FOR ANY PENDING OR HISTORY CODES IN THE PCM, THIS WILL LEAD YOU HOPEFULLY IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.DONT LIKE GUESSING ON THESE ENGINES.PARTS ARE EXPENSIVE..HOPE THIS HELPS YOU .

Not jut low idle. The truck starts and idles very low. It runs for a few minutes then dies. It will not restart for a few minutes but then does and the process starts all over again. If you hold the accelerator it runs just fine. No check engine light and the PCM has not been scanned. I'll clean it all well but the dying, not starting for a few minutes, then starting again baffles me. Thanks!!!
AnswerHI JASON,NO THIS IS NOT A CLEANING OUT ISSUE...YOU NEED TO GET THIS PCM SCANNED FOR CODES AND LIVE DATA..COULD BE ALOT GOING ON THAT WE CAN NOT SEE WITH OUT A SCAN TOOL.AT THIS POINT IT IS JUST A GUESS IS TO WHAT IS WRONG..IF YOU GET IT SCANNED GET BACK TO ME WITH SOME CODES OR MORE INFO..LIKE TO HELP YOU BUT,,,,,,
