Chevrolet Repair: 88 k 1500, oil pressure switch, weird noises

Question
I have an 88 Chevy  k 1500  4 x 4 with the 5.7 litre 350 engine and after work I got in to go home started it up and usually the oil pressure stays kinda high almost  at 60 but today it didn't move from zero I stopped shut the engine off started it back up and it started to go up then just dropped back down to zero its not making any weird noises and seemed to run fine on my way home I have like 15 minute drive. I have no idea what's wrong just the check gauges light comes on . Could it be my oil pump or what else could it be is there a way to see if there is oil pressure or not????

Answer
GOOD MORNING FRANK,,THIS IS VERY VERY COMMON,THE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH IS MORE THEN LIKELY BAD. GET A NEW GM PRESS SWITCH..TO BE 100 % SURE YOU COULD PUT A MANUAL GAUGE IN THE ENG AND RUN IT. IF THE PRESS IS OK THEN THE SWITCH IS BAD...BUT IF YOU HEAR NO TICKING NOISES AND ALL SOUNDS GOOD. REPLACE THE SWITCH,BY THE DISTRIBUTOR, NO EASY TO GET AT BUT DO-ABLE. GM ONLY !!!!! I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU, AND IF YOU NEED MORE INFO PLEASE GET BACK TO ME. IF NOT, WOULD YOU PLEASE RATE THIS QUESTION FOR ME THANK YOU ,,,TOM.
