Chevrolet Repair: OBDII code po833, 2006 cobalt ss, position switch

Question
Hi Tom,

I have a 2006 Cobalt SS with the non-Supercharged engine. Recently the Check engine light came on. Several codes were present including The PO833 Clutch position switch code. The other codes were emission related, (O2 sensor) which Ive already corrected.

However I don't know what I need to do to correct the PO833 code. Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

Answer
Hi Bill,
This code represents that the PCM realizes that the transmission is being shifted without the clutch being disengaged.  That's why this code sets. If you are disengating the clutch when you're shifting and the light comes on then it's more than likely the clutch switch.  There should be a switch on the clutch pedal itself, and that switch is going bad.  Or the other possible cause is that you're speed shifting and not using the clutch.  And if you are speed shifting, I would avoid it.
Hope this helps.
Tom
