Chevrolet Repair: 2005 Malibu, highway ramp, long periods of time

Question
I have a 2005 Malibu that just stop running and the engine signal symbol comes on as well as the t/condition symbol. The message reads engine disabled or engine failure. There is no warning when this happen, but I have noticed that it happens more frequently when the air condition is running or when I come to a stop sign or make a turn. I have taken it to the dealer twice for them to fix the problem and the first time I was told that I needed a new battery because a cell was dead due to the alternator pulling it down. They put the car on the machine to try and determine what the problem was.I was told that they had let it run for long periods of time with the air condition running and the air condition could not be the problem.I questioned that rationale on the second time in, it was the battery, while am I still having the problem?

I was told after the second visit that they re-set the whole computer system and that should solve the problem and if it did not, I would need a whole new system which would cost over 400.00 dollars. I have already paid $242.66 which included a battery with a 6 year warranty for $99.00 and $143.66 for labor which was running the test to try and determine what is the problem.

My question is, why is my car stopping without warning and at will.

Thank you for any advice that share.

Answer
ALBERTINE IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR TCC SWITCH IS BAD,AND THE SWITCH IT SELF IS CHEAP.DOES THIS SEEM TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN WHEN YOU ARE COMING TO A STOP LIKE COMING DOWN A HIGHWAY RAMP AND AS YOU BRAKE IT STALLS?WHAT THIS SWITCH DOES IS,IT IS LIKE YOU HAD A STICK SHIFT TRANSMISSION AND WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP YOU PUSH THE CLUTCH IN TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL,BUT IN YOUR AUTOMATIC THE TCC SWITCH PUTS YOUR TORQUE CONVERTER IN NEUTRAL.TAKE YOUR CAR TO A SHOP AND ASK THEM TO UNPLUG THE TCC SWITCH AND DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR A DAY OR TWO TO SEE IF THAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM.
