Chevrolet Repair: How to calibrate valves, 75 chevrolet, valve adjustment

Question
Hi, I own a 1975 chev. nova, 6 cyl.250 eng. I would like to properly calibrate the valves. I would prefer to do it while the eng. is turned off to avoid the mess. Can you help. Thanks very much.

Answer
I dont work on the old stuff much any more but i think i can help here.

put the #1 cylinder in firing position, then set both valves on #1, intake on #2, exhaust on #3, intake on #4, and exhaust on #5. Turn it over one full turn so #6 is in firing position. Set both valves on #6, intake on #5, exhaust on #4, intake on #3, and exhaust on #2.

Loosen the adjuster nut until the push rod will rotate with your fingers, then tighten it with one hand while turning the push rod, until the push rod will no longer rotate or move up and down. Tighten it one full turn after that point
