Chevrolet Repair: Fuel Pump, vent valve, exhaust muffler


Question
What is the best way to replace a fuel pump on a 2001 Camaro.  Is it true that you have to take off the back axle to get the tank out?  

Answer
Relieve the fuel system pressure.
Drain the fuel tank.
Raise the vehicle.
Remove the fuel fill pipe shield.
Remove the fuel tank fill pipe support bracket bolt.
Remove the exhaust system from the catalytic converter back.
Remove the exhaust pipe heat shield and the exhaust muffler heat shield.
Clean all fuel pipe connections and surrounding areas before disconnecting the fuel pipes in order to avoid possible contamination of the fuel system.
Disconnect the fuel return pipe at the rear quick-connect fitting.
Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) purge pipe at the rear quick-connect fitting.
Disconnect the fuel feed pipe at the fuel filter inlet.
Cap the fuel pipes in order to prevent possible fuel system contamination.
Remove the rear pipe clip.
Remove the fuel tank.
Place the fuel tank in a suitable work area.
Disconnect the hose from the EVAP canister vent valve.
Remove the EVAP canister vent valve from the fuel tank bracket.
Disconnect the fill limiter vent valve pipe from the EVAP canister.
Carefully bend the fuel tank bracket in order to remove the EVAP canister.
Disconnect the fuel feed pipe, the fuel return pipe, and the EVAP pipe from the fuel sender.
Disconnect the EVAP pipe from the fill limiter vent valve pipe.
Remove the fuel and EVAP pipes from the fuel tank.
Disconnect the fuel sender electrical connectors.
Remove the fuel sender electrical harness from the fuel tank.
Remove the fuel sender assembly from the fuel tank.
Remove the fuel fill hose to fuel tank clamp.
Remove the fuel fill pipe and hose from the fuel tank
