Chevrolet Repair: rear view mirror, proper glue, rear view mirror

Question
Hi Robert,

I have a 1999 Chevy S-10 extended cab pickup. Today as I got into the truck I noticed that my rear view mirror had become unattached from the winshield. It is being suspended by the wire cable (for the map lights). There is a hardened tab of some sort still stuck to the glass. Is this the old adhesive? It is not a blob, it is the same shape as the metal tab in the mirror bracket. Also, there is a plastic bracket that came loose with the mirror. It is curved in shape with 2 prongs at one end and a slot in the center for the wire cable somehow. I tried to remove the inside metal tab but it is being held in place by 2 metal prongs which I can't depress. Can you tell me the procedure or what is needed to put this mirror back on the windshield again. Do I need to remove that tab (of whatever it is) that is still stuck to the winshield.

Let me know if you need anymore info.

Thanks,

Harry

Answer
Hi Harry... most glass places will reinstall that for  you at a very minimal cost...if what happened is that the mount came off windshield it needs to be reattached...they have the proper glue for doing that...if not there should be a set screw in the bottom of the U shape you will need to loosen and slide the arm back on the windshield bracket and tighten....hope this helps
