Chevrolet Repair: General question about 350 engines, gm truck, 350 engines

Question
I am looking at buying an older chevy/gm truck. What are the typical problems with 85 350 in a GMC truck? I seem to remember that GM put more electronic controls on the engine in the 80s as I recall they didnt work as well as expected.

Answer
The engines themselves are perfect for anything, the electronics however weren't the greatest.  If you are going to run a carb, run an aftermarket, as you can customize how you do it, you won't need an MC solenoid, or electric choke, if you don't want it.  You may want to use a different intake as well, due to power and weight changes.  The factory electronics, were fine, then, but have since had problems, being 23 years old.  It's also getting much harder to find parts for the electronics when they do go bad
