Chevrolet Repair: Cavalier Gauges Issue, 2003 chevy cavalier, theft deterrent system

I have a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. The battery died this weekend (whups! Left the lights on). When I boosted it for work the next day, the tach, speedometer, gas gauge, etc. are all dead...

Also, when I first start the car, a lit icon appears on the dash with a padlock symbol. I've never seen that before.

What could be wrong and can I fix it myself?

That little annoying padlock is your theft deterrent system.  When you changed your battery you may have "spiked" the PCM(computer).  You will only be able to reset or may even have to replace the control module at the dealer.  Also check the gauges fuse under the hood.
