Chevrolet Repair: 1998 s10 air conditioning, initial reading, freon

The A/C in my 98 s10 blew hot, and the compressor didnt kick on. I took an initial reading for pressure (without the compressor running) of 45 psi. I hot wired the compressor with 12 volts so the compressor would kick on. Took a pressure reading with compressor running and got 25 psi. I know there is a pressure switch that will not let the compressor run until there is 28 psi. I tried adding more freon, and the guage read 65 psi WITHOUT the compressor running, but stayed right around 25 WITH the compressor running. Compressor got real hot. Should I add more freon? I just didnt want to over fill the system as I dont know what the sitting (WITHOUT THE COMPRESSOR RUNNING) pressure should be. Im stumped on this one.

Hi Paul.... if your compressor is hot there is not enough coolent in the system...if you are using the red teck cans to fill you must have AC on and on hi compressor running in order to fill system. you might try bleading off air in the system on the low side. hope this helps
