Chevrolet Repair: 93 Cavalier, trickle charger, split second

QUESTION: my 93 cavalier wont start when i turn the key i was wondering if it was my starter, the battery is good so its not that and when i turn the key it makes a funny noise. i hope you help me thanks

ANSWER: Funny noise?

LIke a click? or a sequence of clicks?  Try and describe the noise with an association like 'the thump was like a spoon hitting a pumpkin'

QUESTION: well yea its like a sequence of clicks it sounds like it wants to turn over but it does it for a split second then goes into the clicking

Hye,

 Battery is dead for some reason.  Could be discharged or just defective.  You need to charge it on a trickle charger for a while and try again. Then make sure the alternator is charging the battery while it is running with a meter.  IT should be roughly 12.6v off and 14.5 running.
 I know your lights and everything work and you would thinkt he battery is ok but the starter draws around 150-175ams and the whole car only needs about 30 for the lighting and accessories.
