Chevrolet Repair: 1999 Chevy Blazer, obd2 scanner, alarm security system

Question
QUESTION: we just replaced the oil pan gasket, in the  process we had to pull the transmission and unplug alot of the electrical connections, got everything put back together and now it won't start. It has the factory alarm/security system. Any idea's ???

ANSWER: Hey,

Sorry for the delay.

When you say it won't start do you mean it is not turning over?  Does the starter engage?

QUESTION: it turns over just fine, seems like its not getting any fuel but after doing some reading up on the vehicle, i read something about PASSLOCK, thinking that might have something to do with it not getting fuel

Answer
Hi,

 Passlock is a GM theft deterrent.  Should the PCM and BCM not see a key in the igntion or lose the keycode the PCM will go into a fuel disable mode.  Ideally you would scan the computer for trouble codes.  A generic Obd2 scanner will not spit out BCM 'u' codes so you will not know if the key or lock cylinder is defective.  You can try relearning the key with this procedure;

Put vehicle on battery charger as process takes just more than 1 half hour.

Insert main key, not valet key
turn ignition on for no less than 10 min (timer is 600 seconds)
Turn off
turn ignition on for no less than 10 min
Turn off
turn ignition on for no less than 10 min
turn off
try and start with 1st key
try and start with 2cnd key.

The outline in the service manual does not mention using second key but 2 months ago I had a BlueStreak PCM that was rebuilt.  The comptuer needed to be replaced due to a bad injector driver but still needed to be relearned.  After relearning I could not get the PCM to allow VTD command off until both keys were used.  I have no idea why and there is no documentation on it but when I called Blue Streak they say you should train both keys.  The second key only needed to be inserted in the ignition and it started first try.
