Chevrolet Repair: 1995 Chevy Geo Metro driver door wont latch, autowreckers, geo metro

I'm in quite a pickle here.  For about a month or so the inside handle has been hard to use to open the door, the outer handle would work fine but not the inner handle.  Three days ago, my friend slammed my driver side door shut very hard.  After a day and a lot of pushing, the door finally came open.  When I tried to shut the door this morning, it would not latch.  I popped the little latch open (very hard to move) but it still will not shut.

What else can I do to fix this?  What do you think the problem is?

 You could try externally lubricating this latch at the door jamb but it sounds like the latch is broken and therefore the inner door panel will have to be removed to facilitate removal of this latch mechanism.  Used parts may be an option if you call your local autowreckers.
