ANSWER: What these numbers mean:
1 = Country example 1 US 2 Can 3 Mexico
G = Company, yours is a GM
C = Make  (Chevrolet)
D = Carline
R = Carline Series
1 = Body Type 1 pickup
4 = Restraints 4 (seatbelts only)
h = Engine Code
3 = Check Digit
H = Model Year (1987)
F = Assembly Plant

The last 6 is the production number 346551

I don't know if yours is rare but if it is in good running shape with no rust and loaded with a tow package.  Thats rare enough....

QUESTION: wow that was fast!!! thanks, what engine? i was told it was a tbi 350, it also has a factory turbo 400,only61,000 miles, how do i rate this truck? what is the value? is it rare with fuel injection, how much horse power? sorry for burning your ear, but you have been more help than the last 10 places!! madd matt .  p s after this i have only one question and it is a good one!!!! can you put a tbi 454 in it's place? will every thing match? will this take away value? thanks!!

Answer
Hey,

 I wouldn't say that it is rare unless you have documentation that it was special order or has options that a consumer wanted added.  In most cases those vehicles would not hit production unless at least an order for 2500 plus was made.
 On the other hand I thought an H code was a 305 4bbl carburetter.  Its a 5000-6000GVW 4x2 pickup,1/2 ton,2door cab, built in Fairfax or Flint.
 Would a 454 make it more valuable? Not really. If you 'had' a 454 it would be worth more selling it than putting it in your truck. The price of fuel does not warrant the extra torque the 454 puts out.  A well tuned 5.7l can economically perform ten fold over a 454.  The fuel consumption is staggering!
