Question
QUESTION: The van started dying on us. Let it sit, it would start again. The time in between letting it sit and it restarting got longer. Assumed it was fuel filter/pump. Replaced both. Was suggested to me to check the coil packs. I replaced them. No change. I replaced the ignition control module under the coil packs. Nothing... It will start and run for a while. It seems like something is getting hot and shutting off the spark. It wont start again until it has sat for a while and cooled off. I have checked after it shuts off, and there is no spark from the packs. All the lights, radio, etc are still fine. All the enigine idiot lights come on. Its just dead. Please help. I need my van!

ANSWER: 3.1? Did you check the crank and cam sensors?

QUESTION: It's a 3.8L and I hate working on cars. But I can, and will get it done.

Answer
Sorry it is taking me too long to answer today.  My son's Hockey team is in playoffs and game 5 of the first round is tomorrow!  I am the Coach, extra practice, busy shop, busy schedule, family man and no limit on questions keeps me busting my butt!!!

Hey,

I guarantee I hate cars more than you.  I would be a small lamb or even a cow on it.

The cam and crank sensors on a 3.8 are on the front of the motor.  YOu will have to pull the harmonic balancer out to get at the crank sensor and it can be a bitch to get off without the right tools.  Air gap is very important so the windows don't hit the sensor.
