Chevrolet Repair: red hot exhaust manifoild, post combustion, check fuel

Question
I have a 1994 chev c3500 1-ton dually with a 454 that seem to be port fuel injected. while towing a heavy trailer it developed a miss, and I found the  first plug wire laying on the frame, I stopped and replaced all wires and continued on my way. after about an hour the miss came back and I found two wires on the driver side burned through. it only happened on the drivers side, what would make that manifold glow red while the other stays dark......stranded 1000 miles from home

Answer
Hey,

You might have a problem with that bank running too lean.  Take it to a local shop and check fuel trim.  The red manifold could have been the cause of the miss though as raw hydrocarbons post combustion will cause this too.  Make sure when you put new wires on it they are as far away from the exhaust as possible.
