Chevrolet Repair: 2000 Silverado 1500 problem, scan tool, main key

Question
QUESTION: Hi Wayne,

I have a 2000 Silverado 1500. Auto Trans. that was wrecked in the front end but has been repaired recently with a new front clip. Now the repair guys can't get it to run. It will start but dies instantly like it's not getting fuel. Injectors have been checked and seem to be working fine. Could it be a computer problem? I really need a picture of under the hood to see if they have everything hooked up correctly.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rodney

ANSWER: Hey

If it has Passlock the computer might be thinkingt he key is not in the ignition and it shuts off the injectors in like 2 or 3 seconds.  It wont run rough or anything, just crank, fireup and immediately die again.  When you say not getting fuel do youmean fuel pressure or injector pulse width.

QUESTION: Thanks Wayne...

yes it's doing just like you say. It will fire up then shut down. How can I find out if it has Passlock and how can it be fixed?

Thanks again,

Rodney

Answer
Hey

If the key has a transponder in it it may have to be "relearned' into the BCM and PCM acceptance.  There are a few ways to do this and using a TECH2 Scan tool is the easiest way but you can by doing the following:
Hook vehicle to the battery charger because its gonna be on for half an hour:

Insert key and turn to the run position.  Leave on for just over 10 min, turn off, repeat, turn off repeat.  Turn off and try and start. This is the manual learn procedure.
You better watch the clock because if you are under 600 seconds it won't work.

PS make sure you learn the main key first not the valet key if equipped.  I got caught on that last month because the customer only gave us the valet key.
