Chevrolet Repair: 1987 Chev 350 TBI Timing, exhaust stroke, compression stroke

Question
Putting a new engine back in my 1987 Blazer and can't remember what position the distributor cap needs to be in and which is the #1 post on the cap.  Do you have a picture that you could send?

Answer
Hey,

It doesn't matter the distributor cap is as long as the rotor is pointing to number one.  They typically get changed over the years and I have seen them come in in all different positions.  If you want to know exactly where they were from factory number one points at the left front headlight.
Set the motor at TDC#1 on the Crank.  You are either on a compression stroke or an exhaust stroke so you want to make sure both valves are closed.  Take a look at the rotor and where it is pointing.  Thats number 1 now!  The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 going clockwise.
