Chevrolet Repair: 2006 Chevrolet fuel tank, purge solenoid, fusting

Question
QUESTION: on 1-15-08 check engin light came on, dealer discovered 1 clogged injector, rust in fuel rail and rust in tank.  They flushed system, pulled tank, cleaned tank and put back in service.  Dealer blamed problem on buying bad gas.  On 2-15-08 check engin light came on again. Dealer again found injectors clogged with rust, rust in the fuel rail and want to do the same thing again by cleaning & flushing etc.  They say again that I am buying bad gas.  All of the rest of our family buyes gas at the same place (a newer Exxon dealer) and no one has complained to the gas station about a similar problem.  The dealership says that the system is sealed and the tank has a protective lining.  Is it possible that the lining has a hole in it and the gas is coming in contact with metal and fusting in the tank rather than rust being introduced into the tank from the gas source?

ANSWER: Hey Doug,

The corrosion is coming from somewhere but if it isn't setting EVAP codes there is no holes in the system.  A system EVAP can be checked with a scan tool by closing the seal solenoid and opening the purge solenoid.  A vacuum will be drawn on the tank and the computer will monitor its leak down.
Doubtful you are getting bad gas. You either have a bad neighbor or not at all.  Did you actually see the corrosion in the tank with your own eyes?  In order for the sock to not filter it out, the filter to let it by and the tank to fill up with rust there would have to be a ton of debris in the tank.  There really is not enough metal in that system to create corrosion internally to plug injectors.  Besides, if the injectors are being plugged with rust it must be coming from past the filters if they are new? Sounds like bullshit to me.  sorry

What exactly was the code that was setting?

QUESTION: The only code I was told about was a misfire code.  I did see the fuel poured out of the fuel rail into a magnetic metal pan.  I saw what looked like rust and it appeared to be metal because it was attached to the magnet areas of the bottom of the pan.

Answer
Hey,

Take reciept and the diagnosis to the fuel station and don't let up. You had a system cleaned out and only bought fuel at one location since then in 30 days. There is no way that vehicle is going to introduce that much debris on its own. I just can't believe that a new style gm filter is going to let particles of steel big enough to see into the fuel rail. Sounds like the new filter introduced it itself. If you have ever had a fuel filter apart you would see what I mean. You can't even see light through them when they are new. Still sounds fishy to me.
